The GEM PCL is a handheld, battery operated instrument which provides comprehensive coagulation testing on fresh whole blood at the point of care. The GEM PCL’s test menu facilitates whole blood measurements of APTT, PT, ACT and ACT-LR (low range). Operation is very simple: the test cartridge is inserted into the GEM PCL , 50uL of whole blood is added to the sample well, after pressing the start button the blood is pulled into the test channel and mixed with the reagent. The blood is mechanically pumped across LED optical sensors, when a clot forms, the blood can no longer flow across the detector, this is the clot detection point for the sample.
